Kendall AMD Foam, a PHMB-containing foam dressing for the treatment of moderately to heavily exuding wounds and protection against infection.
The sterile, soft polyurethane foam dressing has a high absorption capacity. The wound dressing contains PHMB (polyhexamethylene biguanide) as an antimicrobial agent. PHMB helps resist bacterial colonisation of the dressing and reduces bacterial penetration through the dressing.
With the addition of 0.5% PHMB, the wound dressing provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and protection against Gram-negative, Gram-positive and spore-forming microorganisms, including MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and VRE (vancomycin-resistant enterococci). Cross-contamination from patient to patient, patient to caregiver and patient to environment is reduced.
The wound dressing does not occlude the wound and allows air to pass through. Its small pores retain wound exudate while helping to prevent maceration. The dressing conforms to the contours of the wound bed, making it suitable for difficult-to-dress wounds and wound cavities.
The dressing does not adhere to the wound. During dressing changes, newly formed tissue is not damaged and the procedure is less painful. The dressing is easy to apply; both sides are identical, ensuring that it is always applied correctly.
