    #proudhorsevet, also in Egypt

By Morgan Lashley, DVM, Dipl. ECVSMR, veterinary consultant Brooke Hospital for Animals

Horse Vets work in all parts of the world, with all types of Equids: from million-dollar racehorses to the working donkeys and horses in Third World countries. The veterinary work focusing on working equines might not get a lot of coverage in magazines and journals, but that says nothing about the importance of the work.

  3. New at Grovet: Bonpard Enteral Nutrition

Bonpard Enteral Nutrition - for nasogastric feeding of horses that cannot or do not want to eat

Horses that cannot or will not eat due to surgery or serious illness need to be provided with essential nutrients to support recovery. In particular, water, energy, electrolytes, protein and vitamins are important for these horses. Nutrients can be administered to these horses via a nasogastric tube, often using pellets dissolved in water that can easily clog up the nasogastric tube.

Bonpard has developed a product that contains the most important nutrients for ill horses and can be easily administered through a nasogastric tube.

    What is Bonpard Enteral Nutrition?

Enteral Nutrition is intended for nasogastric feeding of sick horses that do not want to eat and horses that (temporarily) cannot eat. Bonpard Enteral Nutrition contains

  4. New in Grovet's product range - Equizol, omeprazole granules

    Equizol

Administering omeprazole granules can be challenging. The unique method of administration of Equizol, makes it an excellent addition to treatment options for gastric ulcers. Equizol is an omeprazole granulate that horse owners can easily administer themselves.

    Stomach ulcers in sport horses

Grovet's Equizol is an omeprazole granulate for the treatment of gastric ulcers in horses.  Stomach ulcers are very common in sport horses, with a prevalence of about 90% in both racehorses in training and high-level endurance horses. A lower (58%) prevalence of gastric ulcers has been reported in competition horses in other disciplines, and it is frequently found even in horses that are trained intensively (53%).

Inhibition of gastric acid production is considered the therapeutic basis of the treatment of gastric ulcers in horses. Omeprazole is the drug of choice for this purpose.

  8. VMRD IgG Foal tests

For the health of the foal, it is very important that sufficient immunoglobulins are absorbed from colostrum in the first hours of life. To determine whether this has happened sufficiently, the amount of IgG in the blood is determined.
VMRD has developed an IgG test that provides reliable, objective test results. This allows for appropriate therapy to be initiated in time so that the foal receives sufficient antibodies to protect itself from infection.
The test strips do not need to be refrigerated and can be used with the VMRD reader that is also used for SAA determination.
