Now available at Grovet with Belgian registration!
Danilon contains suxibuzone, a prodrug of phenylbutazone, and is the only preparation registered in Belgium with this active substance. Danilon is indicated for the supportive treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in horses and ponies, such as laminitis and osteoarthritis. It is a new veterinary medicinal product for equine practitioners in Belgium and a valuable addition to the available NSAID range for horses.
Suxibuzone as a valuable alternative to phenylbutazone
A field study demonstrated that suxibuzone is equally effective as phenylbutazone in the treatment of lameness. This conclusion is supported by the BEVA analgesia guidelines, in which suxibuzone is recognised as a valid alternative to phenylbutazone in cases of chronic orthopaedic pain.
In addition, Danilon offers several other advantages that make it a valuable choice in daily practice.
Gastro-friendly thanks to prodrug technology
The use of oral NSAIDs is associated with a risk of adverse effects, in particular the increased risk of gastric ulcers is often a concern for horse owners. Danilon contains suxibuzone, a prodrug that is only converted into phenylbutazone after absorption from the gastrointestinal tract.
Due to this prodrug formulation, the gastric mucosa is not directly exposed to the active substance, which reduces the risk of local toxic effects. This is supported by a clinical study, in which lower gastric toxicity was observed after administration of high dosages compared with phenylbutazone. In a study conducted with therapeutic dosages of suxibuzone, no adverse effects were observed.¹ ³
User-friendly administration for horse and owner
Danilon is supplied in a box with convenient sachets and a dosing scoop, allowing easy use and accurate dosing. Each sachet contains 3 grams of yellow granules with a palatable apple flavour. Thanks to its presentation as granules, Danilon can be easily administered mixed with feed.
The bright yellow colour makes it easy to check whether the product has been ingested, giving the owner confidence that the horse has received the full dose. This improves the reliability of administration and contributes to treatment compliance.
Excellent acceptance by horses
Danilon granules are microencapsulated and contain apple flavouring, which significantly increases palatability. Practical experience shows that 96% of horses willingly accept Danilon, making administration easy for both owner and horse.¹
