VMRD SAA Update

Ever wonder about Serum amyloid A (SAA) results that are over 3000 μg/mL?

Starting with the newest lot of VMRD SAA you will now get a specific numerical result for any samples with elevated SAA* - even if it's greater than 3000 μg/mL!
You can take advantage of this enhanced upper range and improve your patient monitoring using the existing VMRD Reader. When you receive your order for the newest lot, just make sure to attach the calibration card from the new test box to the side of your reader. The lot-specific calibration system will provide the reader with the right information – no additional equipment required!

*Greatest accuracy is obtained using samples with SAA concentrations up to 3000 ug/mL. Although potentially less precise, a specific and clinically relevant numerical result will be reported for any samples exceeding this SAA value.

VMRD Serum Amyloid A Test

Early identification of infection or systemic inflammation is challenging, and initial clinical signs are often subtle. Serum amyloid A (SAA) is a valuable tool as it is rapidly responsive to clinical changes. Virtually undetectable in healthy horses, it increases within 6-12 hours in acute inflammation and peaks at 1000-fold baseline values – far quicker and more dramatic than fibrinogen or WBC count. As inflammation improves, it begins dropping within 12-24 hours. This dynamic nature of SAA makes it an ideal marker for evaluating disease severity and monitoring progression or resolution of illness, including response to treatment.
