Treating horses with gastric ulcers can be challenging, especially for horses that do not tolerate paste administration via an oral syringe well.
To support veterinarians and horse owners, Grovet now offers Equizol in the United Kingdom—an apple-flavoured omeprazole granulate that can be easily mixed with dry feed.
Gastric Ulcers in performance horses
Equine Gastric Ulceration Syndrome (EGUS) is highly prevalent in performance horses, with studies reporting prevalence rates of approximately 90% in both racehorses in training and advanced-level endurance horses. Lower prevalence rates have been reported in show horses (58%), and EGUS has even been observed in 53% of non-performance horses that are not involved in intense work.
Treatment of gastric ulcers involves pharmacological interventions aimed at inhibiting gastric acid secretion and protecting the stomach lining from acid exposure. Omeprazole is considered the acid-suppressing drug of choice for the treatment of EGUS¹.
