Grovet is moving, to a new improved location! This move is a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to providing you with the best possible service and further growing our business.

We understand that changes can sometimes raise questions, so we want to assure you that we are taking every measure to ensure a smooth transition. Below are some key points you should know about our relocation:

CLOSED

Due to the move, we will be closed from May 29 to May 31 2024. No orders will be processed or shipped during this period. However, it is possible to place your order. Orders placed before 2:00 p.m (May 28) will be shipped the same day. Order wider than usual to avoid missing out. 

Orders placed after 2:00 p.m. (May 28) will be processed again from June 3 2024, please allow for some delay.

What to expect in weaning season

Aside from the lactating mare, the growing foal is the most demanding life stage in terms of nutrition. After foaling, the mare’s milk is perfect nutrition for the new foal that provides energy, protein and other essential nutrients to support healthy growth and development. After about two to three months, milk production begins to taper and additional nutrients will be needed by the foal to support his rapidly growing body. Young, growing horses seem to be able to adapt to a wide variety of nutritional management systems. The keys to any feeding program for developing horses is the same: to provide adequate, balanced nutrients and nurture a moderate, even rate of growth.

As is true for all mammals, the importance of the mother’s milk from birth through weaning is indisputable. While still nursing, a foal will relatively quickly take an interest in sampling forage. This early testing of forage will kick-start the development of the bacterial microflora,

Pro-Stride is a device that provides a solution to lameness and osteoarthritis in horses by concentrating cells, platelets, growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines from a horse's own blood.

Horstem is the first registered veterinary medicine composed of mesenchymal stem cells obtained from the umbilical cord of horses (EUC-MSCs). EUC-MSCs reduce lameness in horses with chronic arthritis (osteoarthritis/arthrosis/OA). Horstem is ready-to-use, it can be injected directly into the affected joint.

An easy method to determine the IgG in the blood of newborn foals. The test strips are interpreted using the VMRD reader and provide a reliable, objective value. This data can be used to determine whether therapy should be initiated to provide the foal with sufficient antibodies. 

IgG in colostrum

The plasma cells in the mammary glands produce immunoglobulins that are absorbed by the foal from the colostrum. The amount of immunoglobulins ingested by the foal depends on the level of immunoglobulins in the colostrum, the amount of colostrum produced by the mare, the amount of colostrum the foal drinks in the first 24 hours and the foal's absorption of IgG from the colostrum. If any of these factors are insufficient, the foal will not receive enough immunoglobulins and this can have major consequences for the health of the foal. In up to 25% of foals, the intake of immune globulins is insufficient.

In horses, there is no transfer of immune globulins

When can Bonpard Equimel be used?

Bonpard Equimel is an ideal product for situations where mare’s milk is not available, such as orphan foals or when the mare is suffering from mastitis. Other indications for Bonpard Equimel are cases where an insufficient quantity or quality of milk is available, for example twin foals or when the mare's milk production is insufficient. Foal milk replacer Bonpard Equimel can also be used when there is no or insufficient milk intake by the foal, for example due to illness or lameness of the foal.
