Strangvac suspension for inj 8 x 1 dose 

Strangvac is a vaccine that is administered to horses from the age of 8 months to alleviate the clinical signs of the acute stage of strangles. Strangles is an infection of the upper respiratory tract and regional lymph nodes of horses caused by the bacterium Streptococcus equi.

The vaccine is composed of recombinant proteins of Streptococcus equi and is administered to horses with an increased risk of infection. The onset of immunity is from two weeks after second vaccination, the duration of immunity is 2 months after the second vaccination and an immunological memory response lasts for 6 months.

Instructions for use

Before use, shake well.
Primary vaccination course: one dose (2 ml) intramuscularly, second dose (2 ml) four weeks after the first.
Revaccination: in horses with increased risk of infection, repeat primary vaccination course after two months.

Veterinary advice

Reduces signs of disease in the acute stage, vaccinated horses can still get infected and secrete Streptococcus equi. Precautions remain necessary to prevent risk of introduction and spread.

Common adverse reactions (>10%) include localised tissue reactions, ophthalmic discharge and a temporary increase in body temperature up to 2.6°C for one to five days. Loss of appetite and changes in behaviour for one day are common (1-10%).
